Newcastle will have to wait until next week before discovering the full extent of Massadio Haidara's injury.

But ESPN understands that the Frenchman, 20, has escaped serious injury following a challenge from Callum McManaman during Newcastle's 2-1 Premier League defeat against Wigan on Sunday.

Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias had earlier told Sky Sports News that the club are still in the dark about the player's recovery time.

"He (Haidara) is at home recovering. He was here earlier so hopefully we will have some news next week," Llambias said. "He has had one scan and he is going to have another scan next week."

Haidara appeared to confirm the news on his Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon, saying: "Al Hamdoulillah. I go better and better." He also thanked his followers for the support he has received adding: "I'm getting better. I want to thank all of you for your messages of support, it really touches me."

McManaman has escaped retrospective action from the Football Association for the tackle and is unlikely to face any further action from Newcastle, but he could still face legal proceedings from Haidara.

The Press Association report that the club currently have no plans to resort to the courts. However, that could still be an option open to the player who, it is understood, is yet to receive an apology.
