Kompany ready for Belgium return

Belgium captain Vincent Kompany is set to return to action in the World Cup qualifier against Macedonia on Tuesday.

Kompany, 26, has been out for two months with a calf injury and his absence has been the main reason why his club Manchester City have fallen 15 points behind rivals Manchester United in the title race.

However, the defender has now trained for three days in a row without encountering any problems and, if he comes through the game without issues, he stands a good chance of being ready to face the Red Devils in the crunch clash on April 8.

"I can't say what is going to happen tomorrow, but I expect him to be 100 per cent fit," Belgium coach Marc Wilmots told a news conference.

"If he is able to train well on Monday, he will start on Tuesday. I first want to see that he is 100 per cent. He is the captain and he's ready."

Belgium are only top of Group A on goal difference from Croatia and beat Macedonia 2-0 in Skopje on Friday in an unconvincing performance.

"We want to take Macedonia by the throat straightaway on Tuesday," Wilmots said. "We need to be fast and mobile. That is the way to beat them."
