Thibaut Courtois has suggested that Chelsea's next manager will decide if he spends another season on loan at Atletico Madrid or returns to Stamford Bridge next term.

Courtois, 20, is coming towards the end of a second year gaining experience at the Liga club. Atletico are keen for him to stay as he has followed impressive performances in helping the club win the 2011-12 Europa League trophy last season, with a key role in their current push for Champions League qualification.

The senior Belgium international told AS that he had expected his future to be decided around now, but Chelsea were waiting for their future boss - whoever that might be - to make the final call.

"It was thought there would be some news around now, at the start of April, but Chelsea have asked for a bit more time," Courtois said. "They are in the process of signing a new manager. They want to consult with him about next season. We must wait a little more."

The former Genk goalkeeper said the speculation over his future was making things a little difficult for him, and he would be happy to remain at Atletico where he is very happy.

"Everyone asks me about my future, it is all very complicated," he said. "I will give everything for Atletico until June 1, and I want to make sure we qualify for the Champions League. And if I am here next season, well, good. I am very happy with the club and with the fans.

"If it was just up to me I would be delighted to stay here another year, but the clubs must find an agreement. We must see what Chelsea wants, but everyone knows I am very happy at Atletico."
