Phil Neville to leave Everton

Everton captain Phil Neville has confirmed that he will leave the Toffees at the end of the current Premier League season.

Neville joined Everton from Manchester United in 2005 and has spent eight years at the Goodison Park club.

The 36-year-old midfielder, who will coach as part of Stuart Pearce's England Under-21 set-up at the upcoming European Championships this summer, stated that he will be looking to extend his playing career after his Everton contract expires in June.

"It's been an honour to play for and captain Everton Football Club," Neville told the Everton FC official website. "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time on Merseyside and will leave with immense pride.

"I would like to thank the Manager [David Moyes], Chairman [Bill Kenwright], all of the staff and the players at Everton for their continued support during my time at the club. I'd also like to pay a special thanks to the fans, who have been amazing over the past eight years and Everton will always have a place in my heart.

"I want to continue to play at the top level as long as I physically can, and will be weighing up my options before making a decision on my next move. I'll now be doing everything I can to help Everton finish as high up the league table as possible."

While Bury-born Neville has not won any silverware with the Toffees, he has notched over 300 appearances for the Merseyside club and became the seventh player to break the 500 Premier League appearance barrier when playing against Wigan on Boxing Day.
