Manchester United defender Patrice Evra is determined to prove the Red Devils are worthy champions when they face Stoke on Sunday.

United's push for a 20th league title suffered a setback recently when they faltered 2-1 to arch-rivals and defending champions, Manchester City.

And the loss did more than just hampered their run to the Premier League crown, with some pundits asking if the 12-point gap back to City is a fair reflection of the season.

But Evra said the outside judgment was an unfair criticism of a team that had worked hard to be on the cusp of winning back the title they lost to their neighbours last season.

And he was confident United would prove their point come Sunday.

"People are saying we didn't deserve the 15 points [the lead before the loss to City]," Evra told The Sun. "But if we are here it is because we are working hard and deserve to win this title.

"We have to make sure we win at Stoke on Sunday and show we are the best team in England.

"Since I have been here I have never lost two games in a row."
