Brazilian club Corinthians have distanced themselves from reports that they would like to re-sign forward Carlos Tevez in the summer.

Manchester City's Tevez played for the Sao Paulo club for two years before first moving to English football with West Ham in 2006.

City say they will be holding summer talks about extending the Argentina international's contract, which runs until next year.

Corinthians director of football Edu Gaspar said his club was not interested in bringing Tevez back and that other areas of the team needed strengthening.

"At this moment, we have no interest in Tevez - we'll sign players for the positions we need," sports paper Lancenet reported.

"We don't seek a player because he is, or might become, important. If we need a player and we see that is someone we need, we go after him.

"Our idea is to keep the club always on the top. If we are not the best, we have to fight to be among the best."
