Man United target Ayew set to leave Marseille

Manchester United and Barcelona target Andre Ayew has said Marseille will sell him if the price is right.

Ayew, 23, is reported to earn £300,000 a month - making him OM's second-highest wage earner behind France international Mathieu Valbuena. With the club looking to reduce their wage bill, the Ghanaian said he could soon be on his way from the Stade Velodrome.

"The club has been clear: if they get a good offer, they'll listen," Ayew, who has been linked with a host of clubs, told Sky Sports. "But I'm not going to leave just to please them. If I go, it'll be to a club capable of winning trophies."

Ayew, the son of OM legend Abedi Pele, has not been quite as effective in the current campaign as he was last season. He recently revealed that he has been hampered by tendonitis in a knee but, with Marseille in second place in Ligue 1 and chasing a return to the Champions League, told Le Phoceen that he would be doing his utmost to help ensure the club had a successful season.

"What's important is to work, to do what I can to help the team win the game," he said. "If I have to fight and battle through things to help the team move forward, I'll continue to do so right to the end. We're at a stage where it's not the individual that counts, it's the team. So, as long as the coach is happy, I'll continue."

Ayew's brother and team-mate Jordan has launched a staunch defence of him after criticism in the French media. He said: "It's tough to play injured. But my brother sacrifices himself for the club. Sometimes, the things said about him aren't fair.

"In his place, I would be flat on my back and would have said: 'Stop!' He's an example for everyone, for all the youngsters. Even if I'm strong mentally, he's something else. That's his strength. Hats off to him."
