Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed goalkeeper Tim Krul is set to miss the rest of the season after dislocating his shoulder.

Krul had to be substituted during the second half of Newcastle's 3-0 defeat to Sunderland after he landed awkwardly when challenging for a high ball, and Pardew said he will not feature again this season.

"Tim has dislocated his shoulder and is definitely out for the season," Pardew said.

Pardew felt the injury to the Netherlands international, who was replaced by Rob Elliott in the 57th minute, and the wrongly disallowed Papiss Cisse equaliser had been the key factors in his side's defeat.

"The loss of Tim and the goal that was not given for offside were a couple of crucial moments," he said. "Losing Tim lost me a pair of legs and one sub which was difficult. Those two moments meant Sunderland could see out the win.

"I don't feel particularly great. It was a tough day really. They looked like a team that worked all week on us on the training ground and we looked like a team that had a really tough game on Thursday night.

"We were tired in the mind and fitness and application and we were always struggling. We did get a little lift in the 60th minute but the referee or linesman denied us. It turned out to be great day for Sunderland and an awful day for us."

Defeat in the Tyne-Wear derby leaves Newcastle in 13th place, five points clear of the relegation zone.
