Yaya Toure believes Manchester City's FA Cup semi-final win shows he made the right decision to sign a new contract and stay at the Etihad Stadium.

The Ivory Coast midfielder put pen to paper earlier this month on a five-year deal to keep him at City until 2017.

And having scored the goal that won City their first major trophy for 35 years, the 2011 FA Cup, and ended their 44-year wait for a league title last season, Toure reiterated his desire to make history at the Etihad Stadium.

He told City's official website: "I know I made a very good choice to sign a new contract because I want to continue to make history and continue to be part of this story of the club. [Because of] those fans, it would be difficult for me to leave."

Toure was named man-of-the-match for his all-action display in the 2-1 win over Chelsea at Wembley but he was keener to praise his team-mates.

"The most important [thing] was the performance of the entire team," Toure said. "Carlos Tevez played very well, even the goalkeeper (Costel Pantilimon) was fantastic. When we needed to control the game, we controlled the game and when we needed to defend, we defend.

"It was very tough. We played very well in defence. Chelsea have fantastic players like [Eden] Hazard and Wembley is not a small pitch, it is very big and very open, very wide. We saw the desire of Man City. I thought the team fought for the fans."
