Swansea have formally applied for planning permission to extend the Liberty Stadium by 11,000 seats.

Having secured their Premier League status for a third year and won the first major silverware in the club's history with the Capital One Cup victory against Bradford, the Welsh side are looking to build on their success.

The Swans also announced record profits of £15.9 million for the six months up to the end of November 2012.

On the club's official website the plans were announced with an aim of helping to consolidate Premier League status and remain a part of the top flight for many years to come.

The proposed work would see the North, South and East stands of the stadium expanded in phases over the next three to five years. Phase One will take on an increase of 3,844.
