Patrice Evra says his Manchester United team-mates believe they can make history this season by winning the Premier League title with a new record points total.

League leaders United are currently 15 points clear of second-placed Manchester City on 80 points, with just six games left to play.

Chelsea set the top-flight benchmark with their 95-point haul in 2005, but with 18 points still to play for this term, Evra is confident that the Red Devils have it in them to re-write the record books.

"[Sir Alex Ferugson] is a winner. He has just told us to win the six games that are left. He said before the Stoke game that the season starts now," Evra said. "That shows you the way he wants to win this 20th title. He told us not to think about the title, just think about winning those remaining games.

"We can still break the record. That is what he wants. He just wants to win game after game. The challenge for us is to win the six games that we have left. It won't be easy, but that is the way the boss wants us to play."

United, who need seven more points to claim the title, travel to West Ham on Wednesday evening before welcoming Aston Villa to Old Trafford on Monday.
