Edinson Cavani's mother has confirmed the Uruguay international's ambition to leave Napoli in the summer but insists he would like to return to the club in the future.

Cavani, 26, has been linked with a move to Premier League sides Manchester City and Chelsea next season, despite the hefty release clause in his Napoli contract.

Earlier this week, the striker claimed he is happy in Naples but will listen to any new offers when the transfer window opens.

His mother, Berta Gomez, told Uruguayan radio station Radio Salto that Cavani is prepared for a new challenge.

"He told me he wants to go elsewhere and to leave Napoli, but also that one day he'd love to return to Napoli," Gomez said. "Edi doesn't know what will happen yet.

"Naples is a city that lives for football. The affection of the people is marvellous and I have always told my son: 'You can go anywhere, but nobody will love you like they do at Napoli.'"
