Police release images of Wembley violence suspects

Officers from the Metropolitan Police's Operation Arrowtip, which investigates football-related crime, have released images of ten people suspected of being involved in violence at Wembley last Saturday.

The FA Cup semi-final, which Wigan won 2-0, was marred by fighting inside and outside the stadium by Millwall fans and police now hope to track down those they believe to be responsible for the ugly scenes and will press for lengthy banning orders.

Fourteen fans were arrested on the day, 12 of them supporters of Millwall.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Barnes said: "We want to reassure the public that we are working closely with our partners to do everything possible to remove these people from the stands.

"We are committed to bringing them to justice and in doing so we will seek to obtain lengthy football banning orders for all those found guilty at court.

"Over 60,000 fans went to this game to support their teams, sadly there was a small minority intent on violence. In sending a clear message to those intent on causing trouble, I would appeal for help from the public to identify any of the suspects featured in the images we are releasing today.''

Police in the North East have also released images of Newcastle fans they believe were involved in violence after Sunday's game against Sunderland. Twenty-nine fans were arrested on the day.
