Manchester United winger Ashley Young will not play again this season due to an ankle injury.

Young, 27, picked up the injury during the Manchester derby on April 8, forcing him to turn up to Upton Park for Wednesday's 2-2 draw with West Ham on crutches.

Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed on Friday that the England international will not feature in any of the club's remaining five games this term.

"Ashley is out for the season," he told MUTV. "It's unfortunate and it's a bad blow. We thought it'd be maybe two or three weeks but now he's been down to the specialist and that's why you saw him at the game on Wednesday.

"We took him down to a specialist in London and the prognosis was not very good at all. We're going to lose him for the rest of the season."

Young has endured a frustrating campaign that has been plagued by injury, having only managed 17 starts and a further two substitute appearances in the Premier League.
