Barcelona midfielder Xavi admits Tuesday's Champions League humbling at the hands of Bayern Munich was the club's "worst result ever" and has made progression to next month's final "almost impossible".

Bayern ran rampant over the Blaugrana to win the first leg 4-0, equalling Barca's heaviest ever defeat in European competition.

Tito Vilanova's side was exposed at the back in the latter stages of the match with Bayern's attack quelling the impact of Xavi.

The Spaniard has conceded Barcelona were simply outplayed and has backed the German champions to reach this season's final.

"It's the worst result ever," Xavi said. "They were better - and I don't mind saying that. It's almost impossible [to reach the final]. But we must try to, for this club and for everyone."

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has admitted he was not 100% to face Bayern after returning from injury.

"It was some days since I played and I didn't feel 100% comfortable but I was not injured, so I could play," Messi said. "It's 4-0 and it will be difficult because they are a great team.

"But we'll try to score at home and do our best. We must go on. Now we must win La Liga soon."
