10-game ban for Luis Suarez

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been handed down a 10-match suspension for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Invanovic at the weekend.

The forward was seen to sink his teeth into Ivanovic during the second half of Liverpool's draw with Chelsea at the weekend.

He swiftly apologised, which was followed by a club fine and subsequent FA charge of violent conduct.

Suarez accepted the charge, but challenged the FA's suggestion that his actions warranted more than a three-game ban. His challenge triggered an appeal panel hearing and they have deemed that the Uruguayan must serve a 10-game ban.

Liverpool have moved to defend their player, with managing director Ian Ayre saying: "Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today's Independent Regulatory Commission decision.

"We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment."

Suarez has until midday on Friday, April 26 to lodge an appeal.
