Lewandowski focused on final not records

Robert Lewandowski insists he is more focused on reaching the Champions League final than personal milestones after scoring all four goals in Borussia Dortmund's 4-1 rout of Real Madrid.

Lewandowski, 24, took his tally to 10 goals in this season's competition, moving within two of leading scorer Cristiano Ronaldo - as Real were shocked in Germany.

But the Poland international admits he would trade the personal acclaim to see his side win the Champions League and has urged his team-mates to be wary of Real, who will take a much-needed away goal into the second leg.

Four goals or more in Champions League match

  • Marco van Basten, Milan 4-0 Gothenburg, 92-93
Simone Inzaghi, Lazio 5-1 Marseille, 99-00
Dado Prso, Monaco 8-3 Deportivo, 03-04
Ruud van Nistelrooy, Man United 4-1 Sparta, 04-05
Andriy Shevchenko, Milan 4-0 Fenerbahce, 05-06
Lionel Messi, Barcelona 4-1 Arsenal, 09-10
Bafetimbi Gomis, Lyon 7-1 Dinamo Zagreb, 11-12
Lionel Messi Barca 7-1 Leverkusen, 11-12
Robert Lewandowski Dortmund 4-1 Madrid, 12-13

"It was only the first leg, but we can still be very satisfied with the result," Lewandowski said. "But we still only took the first step tonight and we haven't reached the final yet. It's a shame that we conceded a goal and that will keep us on our toes in the return fixture.

"I'm happy to have scored four goals, but obviously the big picture is reaching the final and that's the only thing that counts. Real played well in the first half but we had things under control in the second half."

Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan believes it is difficult to focus on minor errors following a convincing win over the most successful team in the Champions League, but has highlighted areas of weakness that his side will fix heading into the final if they progress.

"It was a royal evening for us, it would have been perfect if we had kept a clean sheet," Gundogan said. "However, it's quite hard to get a better result against a team like Real.

"We produced a great display right from the start until the final whistle, although there were phases in the game where we neglected our attacking game a bit. We stepped up our game in the second half and deserved to win by this margin."
