Sir Alex Ferguson believes Robin van Persie will not be intimidated if he gets a hostile reception when he makes his first return to Arsenal on Sunday.

Van Persie scored 132 goals in eight years as a Gunner before making the £24 million move to Manchester United last summer. He was booed and taunted by some of the Arsenal supporters during November's meeting at Old Trafford, when the Dutchman scored the opening goal in United's 2-1 win.

Ferguson was not surprised by Van Persie's treatment then and is unconcerned about the atmosphere on Sunday, feeling his top scorer can cope.

"I'm not really bothered about Robin's return to Arsenal," Ferguson said. "I don't think he's bothered about it either. There was some booing of him at Old Trafford but that's modern society."

Van Persie left Arsenal to try to win trophies and he clinched the Premier League title for United with his hat-trick in Monday's 3-0 win over Aston Villa taking his tally to 28 goals for the season.

Ferguson added: "Robin showed in his celebrations how much winning the league meant to him."
