Andre Villas-Boas has revealed Gareth Bale will remain at Tottenham if they finish inside the top-four and qualify for next season's Champions League.

Spurs are currently fifth in the Premier League and one point adrift of fourth spot, and are battling with fellow London clubs Arsenal and Chelsea for a place in the Champions League.

And Tottenham boss Villas-Boas has been told Bale will stay if Spurs are able to secure their passage into Europe's elite club competition.

"That's the information that I have from the club," Villas-Boas said. "The club is committed to keeping the best assets. That's the only way that we can ensure that we are in the top-four every year."

Bale has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane in recent months, with the Welsh winger enjoying his strongest season for the club - netting 23 goals in all competitions.

"Gareth is part of that project bearing in mind that he has been amazing this season. Hopefully we can develop him to a greater extent," Villas-Boas added.

Tottenham face a trip to struggling Wigan at the weekend, and are set to take on Chelsea in one of three away games in their final five matches of the season.
