Van Persie welcomes competition for places
Robin van Persie has declared himself unworried by the prospect of Manchester United signing a world-class forward who would challenge him for his place and said he would welcome it.
Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted the Premier League champions could bring in Borussia Dortmund's prolific striker Robert Lewandowski, though Bayern Munich are the favourites to buy the Pole.
And United have also been linked with Atletico Madrid's prolific Colombian Radamel Falcao.
But Van Persie, who has scored 28 times this season, told The Sun on Sunday: "The more quality players we bring the better. And even more fun. I trust his judgment. The manager knows what is good for the team."
Van Persie turns 30 this summer but is almost a decade younger than one of his United team-mates, Ryan Giggs. And he hopes he will be able to emulate the Welshman by playing on when his contemporaries have retired.
He added: "Ryan is remarkable. I really hope that I will be able to play on until my 40s - preferably my 50s! I love the game that much, it's my life and my passion."
He would also like the 71-year-old manager Ferguson to delay his retirement, saying: "I have only played under him for one year and it has been an incredible experience in so many ways."
Van Persie had not won a trophy for eight years until United sealed the Premier League by beating Aston Villa on Monday.
And now the Dutchman is determined to secure as much silverware as possible for club and country next season.
He added: "Quite simply, I now want to win as much as possible. Now I've won one big prize I'm even more eager to win more, even more eager to win it all.
"Next season I have the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Capital One Cup, Community Shield and of course the World Cup to focus on."
