Manchester United are readying a massive summer offer for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, according to a report in the Sun.

Sir Alex Ferguson led his United side to a 20th league title win, but made it clear in the immediate aftermath that the Red Devils cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

Ferguson has always had the desire to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, having reluctantly agreed to his sale to Madrid in 2009, and this could be the summer he makes his move.

Ronaldo has two years remaining on his contract and there are rumours swirling that he is prepared to wind down his spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

United have been monitoring the situation, but the Sun claims news of interest from Paris Saint-Germain in Ronaldo has alerted Ferguson.

A United source is quoted as saying the club have contacted Ronaldo's agent to make it clear that they are interested.

"United are not happy now PSG have made their move with a substantial offer," the United source is quoted as saying in the Sun. "They will not give up, however, and have told Ronaldo's agent of their intent."

Ronaldo's focus at the present time is on Real Madrid's Champions League semi-final with Borussia Dortmund, with the Spanish giants trailing 4-1 from the first leg.
