Liverpool plot immediate summer activity

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is planning an early raid in the summer transfer market in hope of having the same success he enjoyed during the January window.

Rodgers succeeded in bringing both Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho earlier this year, sparking a rich vein of form for both players - Sturridge amassing eight goals in 13 games while midfielder Coutinho has scored two goals in 10 games.

And Rodgers believes that moving quickly to sign the right players in the off-season could prove just as rewarding for the club.

"The club respect where we need to strengthen and where we need to improve," Rodgers told Sky Sports. "We have seen from the last window in January, we got our business done early and brought in two outstanding players in Sturridge and Coutinho.

"Hopefully we will have a similar impact in the summer. If we can do that, it will make me really happy with the group going forward."

Despite acknowledging his players work-rate during the season, Rodgers has admitted he will need to make a number of signings in the summer to strengthen his lightweight squad.

"I just think we need a bit more depth and a bit more quality," Rodgers added. "The players this year have done very well. I have asked everything of them and, in the main, they have done very well.

"The majority of the time, there have not been too many performances where I have been really disappointed."
