Hugo Lloris feels that Tottenham Hotspur's game against Southampton will be make or break in his side's pursuit of Champions League qualification.

Spurs are fifth in the table, two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal but boasting a game in hand over their North London rivals.

Andre Villas-Boas' side face Chelsea, who are third in the division, next Wednesday, but Lloris is focused on this weekend's home match versus the Saints.

"We want to be in the next Champions League but we know that if we don't get three points against Southampton our chance will be finished," Lloris told Sky Sports News.

Reflecting on his debut campaign in England, after he joined Tottenham from Lyon last summer, Lloris said: "It was a big step in my career and it was very important to have a good adaptation in my life but also in football.

"I have enjoyed this season. It is true that it was not easy at the beginning, but after it was better."

Spurs winger Gareth Bale has been in impressive form this season, recently being named the FWA Footballer of the Year and PFA Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year.

Asked about the Wales international, Lloris said: "He has had a great season for Tottenham and helped the team to be in this situation.

"I am sure he will help us realise this objective and we need him to win the next four games to finish in the top four."
