Mbia unsure over QPR future

Stephane Mbia has opened the door to a Queens Park Rangers exit and admitted squad unity undermined the relegated west London club's bid to survive in the Premier League.

Mbia, 26, joined QPR from Marseille last summer, one of a flood of new arrivals at Loftus Road in the current campaign, which will end with Harry Redknapp's men returning to the Championship after a two-year spell in the top flight.

"There wasn't very good cohesion between the players. In each club, there are always differences, that's normal," Mbia told RMC. "I came to the club when they were already in trouble.

"We've given everything to keep the club up, but there were problems that existed before that hadn't been resolved."

The former Rennes player's future is equally uncertain. With a year remaining on his contract, Mbia has not entirely ruled out remaining at the club if only to give himself a free hand in the 2014 winter transfer window.

"I haven't had a discussion with the president or the board," Mbia said. "I'll certainly have one about my future at the end of the season. I've a year left on my contract. In six months, I'll be free to choose during the winter transfer window."

Speculation in the French and British media has the versatile midfielder making a return to Marseille. Though the south-coast club would no doubt be interested in reacquiring their former player, particularly should Mbia's compatriot, Nicolas Nkoulou, move on this summer, wages would prove a stumbling block.

Though he stopped short of suggesting he would take a pay cut, Mbia did admit he could envisage making a comeback at the Stade Velodrome, though he added that any port of call on either side of the Channel would be welcome.

"I went through everything at Marseille. I won titles and had some great times there," Mbia, a Ligue 1 title winner with Marseille in 2009/10, said. "In football, things change quickly. I have a career plan.

"Going to QPR was not what I hoped for, but it allowed me to step up a level, to experience another league and mature. I'll stay in England just as I would go to France. I'm comfortable in both countries. How my family feels is also important. Negotiations are on-going."
