Benitez: Moyes will need some time

Rafa Benitez believes that David Moyes is a "good appointment" for Manchester United to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson, but warned that the club may need to give him time to make his mark at Old Trafford.

The Chelsea manager has had some notorious run-ins with both men in the past as Liverpool manager, but had only kind words in his Thursday press conference ahead of next week's Europa League final.

"I don't know what will happen next season," he said. "United will be a strong side anyway. I have to concentrate on my games here, not the future.

"I think he's a good manager. I think he will have a very good team, so I'm sure he will compete at the top and can win trophies with this big club.

"I think it's not easy to find someone like Ferguson, but still he's a manager with experience in the Premier League. He knows the players, the club, and what it means. It could be a good appointment. It's just the time it will take."

Benitez also stated that he enjoyed his running battle with Ferguson - which reached its peak in the 2008-09 campaign when his Liverpool side finished four points behind United in the title race despite beating them both home and away that season.

"I like to compete against top managers, for trophies," he said. "In terms of the future, I said yesterday I wish him health to enjoy his life after football."
