Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini dismissed speculation about his future as 'rubbish' after watching his team end the season trophyless thanks to a 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Wigan at Wembley.

It has been suggested that Mancini could be replaced by Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini in the summer.

But the Italian, who saw his side beaten by Ben Watson's injury-time header from a corner, was defiant after the final whistle, telling ITV: "This speculation is rubbish. If I said it's rubbish, it's rubbish... speculation and rubbish."

The speculation that Pellegrini is on his way to the Etihad Stadium increased after reports suggested that he would be leaving Malaga, whom he guided to the Champions League quarter-finals against a backdrop of financial uncertainty, at the end of the season.

It was also reported that Pellegrini's agent had met City representatives last month and reached an agreement with them.

The Malaga boss neither confirmed nor denied those reports, but said: "We are in unusual circumstances. I don't think any of us really want to leave Malaga.

"Everyone would prefer to stay but, unfortunately, the circumstances we are in don't allow that."

He said speculation about his future would not distract him, explaining: "Being linked to other clubs doesn't annoy me or make me feel uncomfortable - it's something that usually happens every year.

"We are just concentrating on making sure the team finishes in the European places. The future is uncertain for all of us."
