PSG urge Ancelotti to stay

Salvatore Sirigu has declared his hope Carlo Ancelotti will remain coach of Paris Saint-Germain next season after clinching the club's first Ligue 1 title in 19 years.

However, the Italian tactician refused to reveal his future plans amidst the celebrations.

PSG's 1-0 triumph at Lyon on Sunday evening gave the club from the capital their first French top-flight crown since 1994, and minutes after the final whistle at the Stade Gerland, Sirigu, 26, called on Ancelotti, 53, to resist overtures from other sides to stay at the Parc des Princes.

"PSG hadn't won the title for 19 years, it's historic. We hope others will follow. I hope too that Carlo Ancelotti is going to continue with us," Sirigu told Canal+. "It's magnificent. We've suffered. It's a victory for the whole squad. It's the first league title of my career, it's very important. Thanks to all the boys, we've had a laugh."

Ancelotti, whose contract with PSG was automatically extended a year beyond the current campaign by virtue of his team finishing in the top three this season, called his team's triumph "deserved", but would not be drawn on whether he would lead their title defence.

"We're now going to have a party," the Italian, whose team is seven points clear of second-placed Marseille with two games left, told Canal+. "I'm very happy to have won here in France. We're going to continue. It's normal that there's emotion in my voice as it's a beautiful thing when you win. Now, it's done and we're going to speak with the club in peace and quiet. PSG is going to continue and so am I."

The atmosphere inside the PSG dressing room appeared somewhat more tense though as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 31, and the club's sporting director, Leonardo, 43, were caught by Canal+ cameras having a heated argument in Italian as the rest of the team and staff celebrated around them.

The team will be presented with the Ligue 1 trophy, the Hexagonal, at a special ceremony at the Trocadero, opposite the Eiffel Tower, in Paris on Monday, the French Football League (LFP) announced.
