Rooney booed at United victory parade

Wayne Rooney was the subject of a mixed reception as he made his way on to the bus for Manchester United's victory parade.

A shade over 24 hours after the team ensured Sir Alex Ferguson's home reign as United boss ended on a winning note with victory over Swansea, the Red Devils were back at Old Trafford for the start of the team's victory parade.

Rooney made his way on to the bus alongside Rio Ferdinand and while the latter was roundly cheered, there were a host of boos for Rooney - who Ferguson revealed had asked for a transfer.

The England striker did not give an interview to the club's TV channel, unlike Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra before him.

While Rooney was the subject of a mixed reception, Robin van Persie - the player it could be argued who has stolen his thunder this season - was given a fantastic ovation as he posed with the Premier League trophy.

Arguably the biggest cheer was reserved for departing manager Ferguson and he addressed the crowd prior to the bus' departure.

"I am so pleased that we have won it and won it in style with a great bunch of players," Ferguson said. "Yesterday is a day I will never forget. On behalf of the players, I want to say thank you to you all."

Manchester was hit with some torrential rain during the day, but it relented as the players made their way on to the open-top bus at 6pm.

United fans followed the bus as it made its way to Albert Square where packed crowds greeted players and officials.

Ferguson led his side on to the stage and led them in a rendition of We Are The Champions.

Rooney gave an interview en route to Albert Square and the reaction to his name being read out was far more positive and he was all smiles while holding the trophy.
