Howard calls for 'strong' Moyes replacement

Tim Howard has called on Everton to find a strong character to replace David Moyes as manager.

Moyes is leaving Goodison Park at the end of the season, after 11 years in charge, to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

His legacy at Everton is a seventh successive top-eight finish on one of the lowest budgets in the Premier League.

Howard believes the next manager will need strong leadership skills to hit the heights at Goodison. He told the Daily Mirror: "Manchester United and Everton are in the same boat with having to replace the manager in terms of expectation and all the rest.

"It's just very rare to replace one long-serving manager with another long-serving one, so we will need to fill the vacancy with a very strong character. And I have no doubt that will happen."

Howard, 34, is adamant that Everton will not start to slide once Moyes departs. "No, that won't happen," the United States international said.

"Listen, it's a two-way street. Everyone is saying Manchester United have to have faith in him, give him time to work his magic. Well, it's the same with the new guy who comes here.

"We are a really strong group of quality players and the foundations are set. The table is set for the next guy and I have no doubt if he's a strong character, a guy who can lead us well, we will have no problems."
