Martinez to decide future in ten days

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said he will decide his future in a meeting with chairman Dave Whelan in 10 days' time.

However, he has dismissed fears the FA Cup winners will have to have a clearout after being relegated to the Championship.

Martinez, who is the favourite to replace David Moyes at Everton, is expected to be a target for other clubs, despite Wigan's demotion.

He believes it is in everyone's interests for the managerial situation at the DW Stadium to be resolved quickly but is focusing on Wigan's final Premier League game, against Aston Villa on Sunday, and the FA Cup winners' parade the following day before having discussions with owner Whelan a week after.

Martinez said: "I have never ever thought about my situation yet. Now we are just focusing on Sunday. On Monday we need to celebrate the FA Cup around the town and then we need a few days and will sit down with the chairman next week, next Monday, and see what is best for Wigan Athletic."

Players such as James McCarthy, Shaun Maloney and Arouna Kone may attract bids from Premier League clubs but Martinez said: "You wouldn't lose six. You lose players who are out of contract, that is normal, and you need to refresh but there is nothing to be worried about.

"There is nothing to be worried about. When you hear the word 'relegation' it brings chaotic times, you don't know where you are at the football club and you fear the worst. At Wigan, we in the best position we have ever been in. You are going to lose players, the same way that teams who win leagues lose players. That is the modern game.

"We have coped with that. We sold Charles N'Zogbia, we developed Victor Moses, we lost Victor Moses, we got someone like Callum McManaman so that conveyor belt continues. If we lose anyone it is at the right prices."
