Stoke City have launched what they describe as a "full internal investigation" after striker Kenwyne Jones was reported to have found a pig's head in his locker at the club's training ground.

The Daily Telegraph website reports that the Trinidad and Tobago international smashed the windscreen of team-mate Glenn Whelan's car, believing him to have been responsible.

Stoke subsequently said in a statement: "The club takes seriously reports of an incident at the training ground this afternoon.

"A full internal investigation will be carried out and those responsible for any unacceptable behaviour will be dealt with in accordance with the club's disciplinary procedures."

The matter was not raised at manager Tony Pulis's routine pre-match media conference, which was also held at the Clayton Wood facility.

Pulis earlier said that Whelan's fitness for Sunday's game at Southampton was being assessed in view of the groin injury that has kept him out since the home game with Norwich on April 27.
