Rooney to miss 'final game' for Manchester United

Wayne Rooney will miss Manchester United's final Premier League game of the season against West Brom, according to Press Association reports.

Rooney, 27, was also absent from the squad for the 2-1 win against Swansea last Sunday. Sir Alex Ferguson later revealed the striker had asked to be omitted and that he had handed in a transfer request which was rejected.

However, it is believed the England international will not be involved against the Baggies because his wife, Coleen, is due to give birth to the couple's second child.

Rooney's future at the club remains unresolved with speculation in the English media on Sunday suggesting that Monaco and Chelsea are the latest clubs to signal their interest in his services.

He has also been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but the French club's President Nasser Al-Khelaifi refused to be drawn on a possible move for the player when he answered questions from the media after PSG's game on Saturday evening.

"He (Rooney) is a great player, he is one of the best strikers in the world, but this is a time for us to celebrate our French title and then we will think about transfers another time," said Al-Khelaifi.

Outgoing manager Ferguson has already washed his hands of Rooney's disillusionment at United, saying: "It is not my department. I am no longer interested in that. David [Moyes] is going to deal with that."
