Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernandinho has revealed that he wants to join Manchester City.

The Brazilian, who is a transfer target for the 2012 Premier League champions, replied to a question from a City fan on Twitter and confirmed he hopes to move to Manchester.

The 28-year-old is wanted by City, who are also interested in Malaga playmaker Isco, as they plan an overhaul of their midfield for next season.

Shakhtar have placed a €50 million (£42.3 million) price on Fernandinho with manager Mircea Lucescu saying that City will have to activate his buyout clause.

Former manager Roberto Mancini said that was too much and City are reported to value the former Atletico Paranaense player at nearer £17 million.

But Fernandinho, who has won six Ukrainian titles in his eight seasons with Shakhtar, is keen to move, apparently believing it will increase his chances of adding to his five Brazil caps.

And when asked on Twitter: "Do you want to join City? Really hope you join", Fernandinho replied: "yes my friend!!!"

Last week, Fernandinho retweeted a series of messages from City supporters who were urging him to sign for the FA Cup finalists.

He also told Italian paper Calciomercato last year that he expected to move to Manchester - with City his presumed destination - in the January transfer window.
