It remains unclear whether Roberto Martinez will still be the Wigan Athletic manager next season, with the Spaniard saying he has yet to make a decision on his future.

Martinez had been expected to make an announcement about his plans on Thursday, after Wigan chairman Dave Whelan claimed it would be "D-Day".

However, after meeting with his manager again on Thursday, Whelan revealed that no decision had been reached and that Martinez, who delivered Wigan their first piece of major silverware with victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup, needs more time.

"We have had a good, constructive talk nothing about wages," Whelan said. "It is all about the club and can we move it forward in terms of the training facilities and youth development.

"It is all tied up in that. He wants to do certain things and I'm hoping I can assist in that but I want a day or two to look at it. I don't want to say yes until I've had time to think about it. It will be Monday before I can promise anything."

Martinez has been linked to the vacant Everton job and is thought to favour a Premier League job over the challenge of leading Wigan in the Championship following their relegation.
