Rodgers targets players with 'winning mentality'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will target 'winners' to boost his squad as his revolution at the Anfield club heads into its second season.

The Reds have been linked with a number of players in the off-season, with Denmark international Christian Eriksen and Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler rumoured to be on Rodgers' radar.

And in recent weeks, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has joined the list, leading many pundits to believe Liverpool will be a major player in the transfer window.

However, Rodgers has said that only players with a "winning mentality" would be joining the club under his tenure.

"In order to breed the consistency needed to give us success, we need to bring in winners - those with the winning mentality," the 40-year-old told Liverpool's official website, liverpoolfc.com.

However, Rodgers is also on the lookout for another character trait in his new recruits - leadership - with the Reds boss wanting to form a group of players that could rely on one another in tough times.

"Everyone has to play a part in leadership," Rodgers said. "You get different types of leadership - some are purely by action and inspiration, others by organisation and more verbal.

"Taking on that responsibility is something that has to come from within the group here, but we're also looking to bring in that type of player.

"It's our job as a club to look to bring in the types of players who will allow us to kick on again."
