Heynckes: A new era for Bayern

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes believes his side's Champions League final victory on Saturday will kick-start a new era for the club.

Heynckes, who at 68 became the second oldest manager to win Europe's premier club competition, will step down after next week's German Cup final to make way for former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola.

And Heynckes believes the Spaniard can take the club onto bigger and better things.

"He will be able to take over a perfectly-functioning team," Heynckes said. "Of course, Bayern Munich will have to prove they can continue to achieve these things.

"But, possibly, a new era might have begun for the club."

Reflecting on the final, Heynckes added: "We didn't get into the game in the first half, so I corrected a few things at the interval.

"There was pressure on both teams, but we certainly felt the burden of being favourites in the first 20 minutes."
