Cleverley ruled out for England
Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has been ruled out of England's upcoming friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Brazil after failing to recover from a calf injury.
Cleverley, 23, picked up a knock in United's 5-5 draw with West Brom on the final day of the Premier League season, but was given time to prove his fitness to England boss Roy Hodgson.
Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell was last week called into the squad as a precautionary replacement for Cleverley and is expected to feature on the bench in Tuesday's match against Ireland.
Cleverley is the fourth player Hodgson has lost in the lead up to the international fixtures, with Jack Wilshere, Steven Gerrard and Andy Carroll also unavailable for selection.
The friendlies would have provided Cleverley with his first chance to earn a senior cap since England's 1-0 win over Sweden in November 2011.
