Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup is unsure whether Ashley Williams will still be at the club next season as Arsenal and Liverpool continue to be linked with the Wales international.

Williams, 28, has been monitored by the Gunners and connected to a move to Anfield to team up with former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, and Laudrup has suggested the Wales defender, who extended his contract in October, could be on his way out of the Liberty Stadium.

"There has been a lot of talk and let's see what happens," Laudrup was quoted as saying in Daily Express. "He extended his contract not so long ago, like I did. Maybe we have to accept one player will go, but not any more."

Despite finishing ninth in the Premier League and securing the Capital One Cup, Laudrup believes the Swans have to spend wisely this summer if they are to enjoy another successful campaign.

"We need some players and we have to strengthen our squad to compete and try to consolidate the team," Laudrup said. "There is a lot of work to do this summer. One thing is to find them and another to then go and sign them.

"We have to strengthen to consolidate in mid-table because a lot of the teams below us will spend more money. Teams like Newcastle and West Ham, who are buying Andy Carroll. Those sums are way above what we are paying so we have to do things in different ways."

Laudrup has already spoken of his desire to find "another Michu" ahead of next season, with the Spaniard having scored 18 goals following his £2 million move from Rayo Vallecano.
