Liverpool agree Kolo Toure deal

Liverpool will sign Manchester City defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer on July 1, the club have confirmed.

The former Arsenal player will move to Anfield when his current deal expires, boosting Brendan Rodgers' defensive options ahead of the new campaign.

"Liverpool Football Club can today announce they have agreed a deal in principle with Kolo Toure to join the club on July 1," the club said in a statement.

Toure, 32, moved to Arsenal in 2002 - proving an important part of the squad that went the entire season unbeaten in 2003/04. He then joined Manchester City in 2009, serving as club captain for a spell as he claimed the FA Cup and Premier League titles under Roberto Mancini.

However, the Ivorian's career has not been without controversy - he was banned from competitive action for six months in 2011 after failing a drugs test. Toure blamed the incident on diet pills he had been taking.
