Liverpool have reportedly had a bid of £7.7 million accepted by Celta Vigo for the transfer of Iago Aspas and are closing in on a deal for the Spaniard

Aspas has been coveted by a number of Premier League clubs in the past, including Chelsea and Swansea, but the Reds have moved to attempt to make the forward their second signing of the summer, following the capture of Kolo Toure.

The 25-year-old is expected to fly to Liverpool next week, after relegation-threatened Celta's final game of the La Liga season, to discuss personal terms before undergoing a medical.

The Spanish side take on Espanyol on Saturday and must win in order to have any chance of staying up.

Aspas had agreed a pre-contract with Valencia in January but Celta pulled the plug on a deal as Los Che did not want to pay the £8.56m release clause.

The buyout clause was set to drop to £6m if Celta went down, but it seems Liverpool have reached a compromise with the club.

Aspas, who has hit 12 goals in 33 appearances in La Liga this season, can lead the line, play as a second striker or in a wider role.
