Cole: Carroll should join Hammers

Joe Cole has urged Andy Carroll to follow his example and quit Liverpool permanently for West Ham.

Carroll is considering a £15 million move from Anfield to Upton Park after the two clubs agreed a fee last week.

The striker, 24, spent most of the season just completed on loan with the Hammers, scoring seven goals in 23 appearances.

But he is understood to have doubts about making a permanent move to London, and is mulling over the offer as he recovers from a heel injury that forced him to withdraw from the England squad for the friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

Former England midfielder Cole failed to impress during a two-and-a-half-year stint on Liverpool's books, which ended when he joined West Ham on a free transfer in January.

He believes that Carroll would benefit from making the move to Upton Park permanent.

"We play to suit him, we play around him," Cole told talkSPORT. "We try to get good quality balls into the box for him and that is going to be valuable. If I was him, I would be wanting to stay at West Ham.

"The lads love him and the fans have taken to him. If he keeps himself fit he can get 20 to 30 goals next season and really kick on."

Carroll hit form towards the end of his loan spell, scoring six goals in his final 13 West Ham appearances, having missed a chunk of the season through injury. He was ruled out for a month with a hamstring problem shortly after joining West Ham, then suffered a nine-week lay-off after twisting his knee in November.
