A number of Russian clubs have shown an interest in Papiss Cisse, according to the Newcastle striker's agent.

The 27-year-old made an explosive impact on Tyneside when he joined from German side SC Freiburg in January 2012, netting 13 goals in just 14 Premier League games.

Unable to maintain that form as Newcastle battled against relegation, he recorded a respectable 13 goals in 47 games this campaign after spending large spells of the early season farmed out on the right wing.

Reports earlier this week suggested Anzhi Makhachkala were keen to press forward with a bid of around £15million, but it is believed Newcastle would demand significantly more to even consider parting with Cisse who still has four-years remaining on his Newcastle contract.

However the player's agent Nickolay Guido has admitted Anzhi's involvement in the Europa League would appeal to his client should they be able to agree a fee with the Magpies.

"Russian clubs have shown interest in Papiss at the same time, but I don't want to name the names of the clubs as it wouldn't be a correct step from me," said Guido.

"Anzhi have the advantage that they could qualify for the Europa League and the Senegalese striker's dream has been to show his qualities in Europe and it doesn't seem possible with Newcastle in the near future," he said.
