Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has urged club chiefs to strengthen the playing squad if they want to challenge for major honours next season.

Chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak has set a target of winning every competition City enters although last season they finished with no silverware, finishing second in the Premier League to Manchester United and losing the FA Cup final to Wigan.

If they want to bounce back Kompany insists adding new faces is a must as he expects increased competition next season.

"I've seen every single club strengthen every season," Kompnay said. "Teams can come from nowhere and win the league.

"You cannot rule out Liverpool, Tottenham and even Everton were really good this year. Then you have the usuals like Arsenal, Chelsea and United.

"But there is a chance to strengthen our team and compete again for the league."
