Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has told Sky Sports News that Jose Mourinho will return to Chelsea.

The Portuguese has been heavily linked with the manager's job at Stamford Bridge since his departure from the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu was confirmed on May 20.

And a four-year contract is expected to be confirmed in the early part of next week which will see Mourinho back at the club he managed for three years between 2004 and 2007

Mourinho managed his final game as Real coach on Saturday evening, a 4-2 Primera Division victory against Osasuna and leaves the club following a disappointing season which has been marked by a failure to win any silverware.

But the former Porto and Inter Milan boss is keen to leave on friendly terms, saying before the game he said: "I wish everyone associated with Real Madrid much happiness in the future. I appreciate the support of lots of fans and respect the criticism of others. Once again, a lot of happiness to everyone and above all good health. Hala Madrid!"

Mourinho's return was confirmed in an article on the official Premier League website which was headlined 'Jose Mourinho makes Chelsea return' and published with the date June 3 on it.

However the page was later removed and a spokesman apologised for the "publishing error".

A Premier League spokesman said: "It was a publishing error. We took it down as soon as we were notified of it, and we've spoken to and apologised to Chelsea.

"We have no prior knowledge of any movement or any announcement (regarding Mourinho)."
