Schwarzer wants first-team football

Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes he still has plenty to offer in Europe's top-flight, but is demanding regular first-team football from any suitors for his signature.

Schwarzer is weighing up his club future - and is yet to agree to a new contract with the Premier League club.

The 40-year-old looks increasingly likely to depart the longer the stalemate over a new deal drags on, with one eye firmly on being ready for next year's World Cup finals should Australia qualify.

Schwarzer says the key to where he decides to play next year is the guarantee of first-team football - something he has done throughout his 20-year career in Germany and England.

But in prepartaion for Australia's World Cup clash with Japan on Tuesday night, Schwarzer is comfortable he will agree on a new deal - if not with Fulham, then elsewhere at a top-level club.

"There's no new developments; there's no new discussions; there's no nothing," Schwarzer said of contract talks."I'm confident my club situation will resolve itself one way or another.

"Something will be sorted out - I've got no worries about that. I've got no idea at this stage where I'm going to be. I'm open to anything."

Meanwhile, Fulham are close to completing the signing of Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, according to reports in the Fulham Chronicle.

Stekelenburg, 30, was a target for the Cottagers during the January transfer window and played under manager Martin Jol at Ajax. The Netherlands international is viewed as a long-term replacement for Schwarzer.

Fulham have wasted no time rebuilding their squad for next season with Derek Boateng and Fernando Amorebieta already signed this summer.
