Arsenal's hopes of signing Higuain improved

Arsenal have received a boost in their hopes of signing Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain, after the striker confirmed his intention to leave the club in the summer.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with the Argentina international in the last few months, although Italian champions Juventus have also been credited with an interest. And Higuain has underlined his desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu, after growing frustrated with his rotated place within the squad.

"I am leaving Real Madrid, the decision has been made, I feel the time is right and I want a change of scenery,' Higuain said. "I have not decided where I will go, but the club already know that I want to go. It was my decision.

"I want to go where I can prove myself really. I have several offers. I hope that they [Madrid] do the best for me and for themselves."

Pressed on the interest of Juventus, who are also due to welcome Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente into their squad this summer, Higuain admitted a move to Turin could be on the agenda.

He added: "Yes, they are a possibility but I do not know.

"It [partnering Llorente] would be wonderful. We'll see what happens."

Arsenal have money to spend this summer but Higuain is not the only striker on Arsene Wenger's radar - with Barcelona forward David Villa coy on a possible move.
