Rangnick rules himself out of Everton job

Ralf Rangnick has distanced himself from a move to Everton, boosting Roberto Martinez's hopes of taking charge at Goodison Park.

Rangnick, the sporting director at both Austrian top-flight club Red Bull Salzburg and German third-tier side RB Leipzig, has told German media that he intends to stay put.

The 54-year-old guided German Bundesliga side Schalke to the Champions League semi-finals in 2011, but stepped down in September that year, citing exhaustion.

Martinez, who confirmed last Tuesday that he intends to leave Wigan following their relegation from the Premier League, remains the front-runner for the Everton job after being interviewed twice by chairman Bill Kenwright, who is expected to name a new manager in the next 48 hours.

Rangnick and Porto manager Vitor Pereira have also both been under consideration for the job, which has become vacant following David Moyes' decision to leave for Manchester United.

However, Rangnick has told German broadcaster MDR that he intends to see out the three-year contract he signed when he took up his dual role with Salzburg and Leipzig in 2012.

Asked about a move to Everton, he said: "I have been made aware of that and, well, you should not take every one of those media reports for granted.

"I have had signed a deal for three years with my current employer and thus far have just been in my actual job for 12 months."
