Sevilla claim Navas City deal done

Sevilla winger Jesus Navas is on the brink of joining Manchester City, after his Spanish club confirmed they had agreed a deal with the Premier League side for their 27-year-old Spain international that could be worth as much as £24 million.

Navas had stated publicly that he was eager to join City this summer as they prepare to put the finishing touches to a deal that will see outgoing Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini succeed Roberto Mancini at the Etihad Stadium.

Now it seems Navas will be the first big-name arrival in what is set to be a busy summer at City, with Sevilla confirming they have reached agreement with the Manchester club to sell their star asset.

"Jesus Navas leaves Seville for Manchester City," read a statement on their club website. "Sevilla accepted an offer from the English club on Monday, taking into account the desire of the player, who will now have to pass a medical.

"Jesus wants to continue his successful career in English football, more specifically at a club where he can continue to grow as a player, as already stated publicly on several occasions in recent months."

The statement went on to hail Navas as a Sevilla idol and lavished praise on the departing hero, who will cost City an initial £17m in a deal that is laced with a variety of add-ons that should swell the Sevilla coffers in the coming years.

His move to City will end Navas' 12-year association with his local club, while it will fuel speculation that Pellegrini is planning a big overhaul of the squad he is set to inherit from Mancini.
