Arsenal are expecting a summer battle with Bayern Munich to retain the services of defender Laurent Koscielny, according to a report in the Sun.

Koscielny struggled upon his arrival at Arsenal in 2010, with a number of blunders leading to questions about the wisdom of the signing from Lorient, but the 27-year-old flourished in the 2012-13 season and was arguably the Gunners' defensive star as they went on a fine run at the end of the campaign that earned them Champions League qualification.

His displays have earned him a regular place in the France side, while the Sun say Bayern - who defeated Arsenal over two legs on their way to Champions League glory - have also been impressed.

An 'Arsenal insider' is quoted as saying: "Laurent is aware of Bayern's interest and has talked about it with other players. No one knows how it will end up but anything is possible."

Bayern's new manager Pep Guardiola will want to make an impression to build on the Treble success and the 'Arsenal insider' claims a move to work under the Spaniard is an attractive proposition for Koscielny.

"It's worrying because it's a very attractive option for him to sign for the Champions League winners, who will have Pep Guardiola as manager next season."
