Liverpool are on course to complete the £7.7 million signing of striker Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo within the next 48 hours, ESPN understands.

Aspas scored 12 goals in 34 matches during the season just completed to help his club survive in the Spanish top flight.

A fee was agreed between Liverpool and Celta Vigo last week, and the player is expected on Merseyside for a medical once a few minor details regarding the deal have been sorted out.

The 25-year-old, who can play as a main forward, a second striker or out wide, broke into Celta Vigo's first team in 2008 after graduating from their youth set-up.

He is set to become Liverpool's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of central defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer from Manchester City.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is also considering moves for Shakhtar Donetsk's Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Schalke's Greece international centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

And the club are understood to have made a £3 million offer for Sporting Lisbon central defender Tiago Ilori. The 20-year-old is currently on duty with Portugal at the Toulon Tournament in France.
